Smith wrote the letter below in 1920 about his time
at Davidson as part of the graduating class of 1865.
He titled it, “Reminiscences of Davidson.”

the curriculum below confirms a rumor heard about
the school’s function since inception and through this period in history.
Davidson’s reputation was as a finishing school for landed gentry.
This excerpt from mary medley also supports the notion:
Excerpt from Mary Medley’s book on
the ‘History of Anson County, North Carolina.’

Now take the time to read the will and see why there are legitimate reasons to question Smith being capable of writing out the processes of complex concepts found in the will on his own. On his own because there weren’t any subscribing witnesses. A spouse would probably suffice as one subscribing witness. There are likely some that think Smith had an attorney draft the will. Well, then why didn’t he sign as a subscribing witness or grab two people to witness.
tHE PROBATE OF THE WILL STATES THAT IT was WRITTEN IN 1923, and THAT IT WAS FOUND IN HIS PAPERS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS AFTER HIS DEATH ON aPRIL 16, 1934. iT WAS DISCOVERED (AFTER SITTING FOR ALMOST ELEVEN YEARS AMONGST OTHER PAPERS (ALMOST ELEVEN YEARS THAT HE WASN’T ABLE TO GET ANYONE TO SIGN AS A SUBSCRIBING WITNESS)) PROVIDED TO THE BANK OF WADESBORO to be THE EXECUTOR, TYPED UP the document we see today, MADE SWORN STATEMENTS, ANALYZED HANDWRITING, AND was IN PROBATE COURT ON aPRIL 21, 1934. iT’S DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY SOMEONE, OTHER THAN AN ATTORNEY, IN JUST A FEW DAYS. wE SEE THAT SMITH DIDN’T HAVE THE EDUCATION FOR SOME OF THE CONCEPTS INCLUDED UNDER SEVERAL ITEMS OF THE WILL.
thE PERSON THAT DEVISED THIS WILL HAD considerable business education. tHAT WASN’T SMITH, BUT IT WAS mR. dUNLAP. hE WAS KNOWN TO HAVE ATTENDED A BUSINESS SCHOOL IN PENNSYLVANNIA, AND OUR IN-DEPTH RESEARCH HAs shown ADDITIONAL BUSINESS EDUCATION TO GO WITH THE BUSINESS SCHOOL IN pENNSYLVANNIA. tHAT BUSINESS-SPECIFIC EDUCATION PAIRED WITH THE ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING EDUCATION mR. dUNLAP ALSO RECEIVED MADE HIM ALMOST UNBELIEVABLY EDUCATED TO MOST.
wILLIAM BENNETT DUNLAP WAS ALSO VERY INTELLIGENT, BUT HE WAS HUMAN. hE DID MAKE MISTAKES, AND HE DIDN’T POSSESS WHAT CAN BE DESCRIBED AS A ‘ROBOTIC CONSISTENCY.’ dUNLAP HAD ‘MANY IRONS IN THE FIRE’ AND DIDN’T HAVE TIME FOR CONSISTENCY WITH WHAT HE SAW AS an obvious, INSIGNIFICANT detail. tHE ONE WITH THE ‘ROBOTIC CONSISTENCY’ WAS WILLIAM aLEXANDER SMITH. tHE REASON For that was probably due to almost everything known about his life being a lie. Consistency became a method for keeping the lies straight. It may have also been compulsive.
The lack of consistency and the numerous ‘moving pieces’ in the will are both characteristic of how Mr. Dunlap operated. THe lack of consistency, especially for the specific incident of inconsistency, is unlike anything the always presentable (in his Confederate Army Uniform) William Alexander Smith did in the 91 yeARS HE WALKED THIS EARTH. tHIS PRESENTATION READINESS REQUIRES EMPHASIS IN THIS CASE BECAUSE, WITH smITH, THE PERCEPTION PORTRAYED IS THE REALITY CREATED.
